A good solid rain started about 9 last night and seemed to go on through the night, still splitting and splotting this morning (we’d had some on Sunday night too, but not much).
Our first rain since February 5, and that wasn’t much to write home about! The MetService is forecasting showers for tomorrow and Thursday and rain again for Friday and Saturday.
I feel vindicated now in ignoring the invitation to finish up early Sunday evening and just kept my head down and bum up and finished off that bit of weeding that’s been annoying me for ages. Why should weeds get good water?
The Bay of Plenty Times is describing the overnight rain on its website as “torrential” but I can’t find any figures in the story (actually about road crashes). This regional council webpage shows 8mm at 6am at Omokoroa (north side of Tauranga, about 20 minutes by road). At the same time, according to the Waipapa page, they were getting 16.5mm in the hills behind Omokoroa at Whakamarama.
