Urgent – butterfly food needed
Mary Parkinson, who looks after the butterfly garden at Te Puna Quarry Park, is urgently in need of swan plants for monarch caterpillars. She has recently been given some 300 caterpillars but doesn’t have enough swan plants at the quarry to cope with the influx. If you can foster caterpillars on your plants contact Mary, either by email or phone 576 4752.
Waihi Dahlia Show
The show is on tomorrow (January 16) from 12.30 to 3pm. Have lunch in town (try the Waitete Restaurant or just go for an ice-cream, hand-made on site) and enjoy the show. See the Events page for full details.
Nick and Elizabeth Miller of Lake Rotoiti are looking for a reliable pair of hands to take on The NZ Orchid Review, an email newsletter that appears every two months. They will pass over a distribution list, format notes, etc to someone “with the enthusiasm and know-how to produce a small, but satisfying, email magazine”.
If no one steps forward the June issue will be the last, after 6 years of publication. The Millers want to spend more time with their own “neglected” orchid collection. If you’re interested email Nick.
If you’d like to be a stall-holder at this year’s QuarryFest at Te Puna Quarry Park act now! There are only a limited number of sites suitable for stalls but the organisers are always keen to have something fresh to offer. The event, which attracts hundreds of people, is on Sunday, November 3. For more information email Dulcie.
The Specialist Growers page has been updated to include:
